I retired from the Naval Reserves in 1994 as a CDR, and am looking forward to collecting my retirement check at age 60.
There are times when I really miss the friends I knew aboard Schofield. I'll never forget people like HT3 David Bouchard, HT2 Tim Spellman, EN1 Jones, MR2 Steve Auran, HTCS Barney Lewis, LtJG Bryan Webster, LtJG Jim Wurzel, LtJG Bob Hautman, LCDR Hugh Webb, and others.
Occasionally I hear from Doyle Van Deman and we reminisce about singing in the clubs in the Philippines during the 1978 WestPac.
While I was in the Naval Reserves I saw a couple of Schofield alums. Funny, one of the last CO's on Schofield, CDR Mike Svendsen, was an instructor of mine when I was in NROTC at the University of Minnesota. I ran across him through his wife, LT Pam Svendsen, who was one of my department heads when I was CO of SIMA 819 in the reserves. (I guess it's a really small world.) Mike and I also ended up working together at McDonnell Douglas Technologies in San Diego.
It's nice to see the guys like Doc Benham and Andy Golden on your site. I wonder where MM2 Jon Kelbowski is today?
Later..........
John Neumeister, USNR-R
