USS Schofield FFG 3
Navigation Department

The Navigation Department is composed of several different rates and is generally referred to as the "Executive Department" as it performs functions essential to administration and is involved with the command. The people directly involved with the art of Navigation are the Quartermasters (QM's). It is this group which performs all the nevessary tasks and functions needed to navigate a ship at sea. Most of their working hours are spent on the bridge or in the chartroom.

Next we have the Yeomen (YN's) and Personnelmen (PN's). It is their jpb to ensure all officer and enlisted service records are up to date, all official correspondence, both incoming and outgoing, is properly drafted, routed, and acted upon. They are also responsible for any administrative matters that pertain to the ship.

Perhaps the most important men on the ship, and fortunately the least used, (except for the Postal Clerk) are the Corpsmen. The health and sanitary condition of the crew and ship are their primary jpb. They conduct sick call every day, and have a pretty good percentage of cures.

Finally the Chief Master-at-Arms (CMAA) and 3M coordinator fill in the ranks of NAV. The CMAA is the ship's "Chief of Police" and is in charge of security. He is also the command's prome source of information on legal/criminal procedures. The 3M coordinator is responsible for the ship's 3M system (a system used to preserve and maintain the material condition of the ship).
